Default MEGA SI transducer question [Popping sound]

Can someone with a MEGA SI unit please turn your unit on, listen closely to the ducer and see if it makes a popping sound? I can hardly hear it thunder but I took a buddy fishing with me this weekend and he kept hearing something pop. I couldn't hear it. He finally determined it was my ducer. Once we got the boat loaded, I turned the unit back on and sure enough it pop, pop, pops.

Sounds like an electric fence charger. Not nearly as loud as an electric fence charger, but the same sound and cadence.

It would start and stop on the water. I don't know a good way to describe this but sometimes the bottom of the lake shows up in the middle of the screen in 2D, instead of close to the bottom of the screen like it should. When the bottom showed up in the middle of the screen, it would pop. When that "false echo" went away, the popping stopped.

the popping sound is normal..... the popping sound is the transducer's 2d/di/si elements pinging. This is why some people turn off sonar in shallow water, they believe it may scare the fish. The bottom moving on the screen could be the auto depth adjusting

My buddy could hear it while the boat was in the water, while he was standing on the back deck fishing. I had to get down on one knee, while the boat was on the trailer and put my ear against the ducer to hear it. Sometimes I miss being able to hear well, and sometimes I don't.

I forgot to turn my master switch off recently, walked by my stowed Terrova w/US transducer built-in, and heard the same popping. I never paid attention to it down in the water, but at ear level, I was surprised how loud it was. Glad to hear that it may be normal...
