Never heard of it but will check it out.

I'm guessing it's labelled for that purpose?

I ruined a Nikon Monarch scope by putting Rain-X on the outside of the lenses. I was trying to hunt in the fog and the outside of the lenses kept fogging up. I had the brainstorm to use Rain-X. It worked great that first day, but it ate the seals out from around the lenses and then the inside of the scope fogged up the next day.

I’d be careful and try it on an old unit. Cell phone aren’t water proof. I would be concerned it might damage the seal around the screen of the unit.

Maybe I haven't been imagining the detrimental effect of RainX on my windshield wipers. I always had the feeling that it dried out, or hardened the rubber wipers. Seemed like they got hard and then dragged across the glass instead of having a smooth glide when they were new......as if they had a shorter life than when I didn't use Rains.
At any rate, I don't think I would use it on an expensive unit.

I wouldn't use it on the HDS touch units. Lowrance doesn't even recommend vinegar and water on the touch screens. Lowrance recommends a. 50/50 mix of alcohol and water only due to the coating on the screen.

I was told it was ammonia that was bad for the coating and vinegar was ok to use. I had been using windex with vinegar.

The manual for my touch unit recommended alcohol and water. The manual for my non touch unit recommended vinegar and water.

I never read the book. I use the screen stuff by Phillipps on my Motion Computing outdoor tablet and also on my HDS for gen1,2,3. Nothing crumbled yet. Lasts a long time. Little dab a do u.

Forgot to mention that I read the msds sheets on both phillips and windex a long time ago. Both products are very toxic and are somewhat similar properties. They both are used to make antifreeze and other stuff. I can't remember. Don't drink it.
