Thread: Pinched Transducer Cable

If I remember correctly, someone had posted a way to repair them.

If you have a soldering gun it's pretty easy to repair. Cut cable in half strip back covering on both ends about 3 inches. Wires are color coded. Lay wires side by side then cut one off shorter than the others then do same thing to different wire on oppisite side. You are wanting to make solder connections offset. Get small heat shrink and slide a piece on each of the longer wires . Then solder the 2 wires together. Slide up heat shrink and heat to shrink. Then lay foil across them and gently solder that back together. Put a dab of silicone over connections or paint with liquid electrical tape. When cured wrap a small piece of tinfoil over joint then wrap good with electrical tape.

I did something very similar to Cray's recommendation back in the early '70's to my Lowrance Little Green Box. Cut the cable in two with the exception that the foil shield was still holding on one side. I thought I was toast but there was a Ray Jeff guy on the dock (Toledo Bend) and he told me what to do. I used electrical tape only as that is what I had. Used that unit for several more years, gave it to a friend when I got a Super Sixty. I would say it operated for another 8-10 years w/o a problem. Good luck. What he shared WILL work. That old man emphasized to me about the shield, I remember that.

I have never tried tinning aluminum foil but I guess it should work simular to aluminum wire, just a little more tedious.
