Humminbird Helix 7 Chirp Di/Gps G2 Combo

Does anyone use this Humminbird Helix 7 Chirp Di/Gps G2 Combo unit? I just ordered it from Hodges Retail for $439. it's the best price I found on the internet.

I don't like side scan at all, it is confusing to me because I never know what the heck I'm looking at, but I love down Imaging.

I am presently running a Hummingbird 688 ci hd Di and as I mentioned above I like down imaging, but I've wanted to upgrade to a Helix Chirp DI Combo unit.

I was wondering how good the unit is from someone who runs one. It has great reviews, but that's not always a good thing to go by.

I have one I replaced for a Helix 5 DI, but this is my first Chirp unit and my learning is kinda steep right now. Too many frequencies, and I don't know what is the best one to use in my fishing waters. I hope to see Rickie in couple weeks down here in MS, and hope I can get a tutorial on it. Hopefully Rickie will chime in.

Side Imaging is best understood by imagining yourself hovering above the boat looking straight down into the water ...

The dark center section is the water column between the xducer and the bottom of the lake ...

I love mine as far as down view and mapping goes. Not crazy about the sonar coming from lowrance. But it’s not terrible. Only thing I wish I would’ve done was buy a larger screen. I use the 7 up front and a 9 at the console. The 7 is hard to see in split screen mode when you have the map on and another form of sonar.
