And then Rickie outdoes himself again by giving me a step by step checklist to make sure my settings are optimum. Thanks, Rickie!

Haven't seen where upgrades are much of an advantage to me on my helix -9 . Was wondering if you had to do each upgrade if I decided to though .

Any version includes all previous released versions ...

So it's not absolutely necessary to do every version released ...

Even though you may not want to update the unit at the current release, always good to download a copy and save as backup. In many cases you can always revert back to the previous version after doing an update and then deciding you don't like it. Note: Can't update to a release earlier than what was delivered on unit or in cases where it is stipulated in the release notes.

One thing that I don't like is, "Night Mode" or whatever it's called. When you select that, the screen dims, which is nice, but it doesn't dim low enough. That's not what I don't like. What I don't like is that unlike before the update, when I dimmed my screen at night, it always went back to the original full bright screen when it was powered back on, for the next fishing trip.

I dimmed it with Night Mode a week ago and when I went fishing mid day, this weekend, the screen was so dark that I couldn't see it, and it's hard to change the settings back to normal when you can't see the screen. I had to pull under a bridge to change back to full brightness.

No, but you should back them up to SD Card and keep a copy on your PC " just in case" even IF you don't update - you just NEVER know...
