I have the Xi5 and I have it connected to my Lowrance. It's not required though. You don't need to hook it to anything to utilize it. I just watch the speed on my fish finder to gauge my speed most of the time.
Ok I have never had a gps trolling motor so need some advice...I want one with anchor lock and will be used for spider rigging so speed control is a big thing to ..I have a Garmin 73cv going up front so I know it want work with motorguide or Minn Kota but what I don't understand is will it or the I pilot work with out being hooked up to a fish finder?

Thank u that's what I was wanting to know... Cabela's has the xi3 52 pound thrust with pinpoint gps for 899 sounds like a good deal over the Minn Kota ipilot 55 thrust for 1100

I'm not sure if Cabelas still has the sale going on but a coworker bought one a week or two ago because of the pricing. Not sure about now.
You won't regret the purchase. It's the single best purchase I've made for my boat. Makes life so much easier, especially on those windy days when everyone else hides in the coves or goes home.
It's still on their website I will order it this weekend or at least try
