    Default Finally upgraded!

Went and picked up a new Ulterra 80 I-pilot link this morning!

Been debating on what to get all winter, but I decided to just go all out in the end. I got it mounted and played with it a bit, the auto stow/deploy is crazy cool. I can wait to get it on the water, I may have to go out tomorrow for a trial run.

i did grab the wrong cable so I haven't got to mess with the humminbird link options yet.

You are going to love it.I love my Ulterra. I have had a couple of hick ups last year. A couple of times it would not store it self. So keep this in mind. I would turn off the power, unplug the power. Then plug back in and power it up and it would work like normal again. It has only happened twice. Letting you know so if it happens do not panic. Otherwise it has been everything I wanted and more.

Don't forget to calibrate your heading sensor and boat scale out on the water.

If I were you I would familiarize myself with the manual stow procedure. Make sure you have the right size screw drivers and so on to keep on the boat. While at home I would take the side cover off and just look at what you may have to do when it will not stow. I have owned an Ulterra for almost 3 years. While it has served me well it has been sent in twice for several things being wrong with it but one thing that was wrong both times it went in was failure to stow and or deploy. The first time you have to do that out on the lake it can be very frustrating. After I did it once it became old hat and I could do it in a matter of minutes. Many have reported that once you do a manual stow it has to be sent back in for it to work again. I can tell you that when mine failed the first time I waited for a lull in my fishing time before I sent it in......I did not want to be without a motor. I had to do manual stow many times before I took a break from fishing and finally sent it in the first time. I was always able to get it back working once home and in the garage. The second repair did not last long as it has been acting up since January.....I got it back from last repair last August. Even though it has issues I will keep using it until it completely fails. I don’t know what it is with the Ulterra. Most folks that have them have no issues. I have one buddy who has had one for 3 years and not the first hiccup. I have another buddy who got rid of 1st gen Ulterra....had problems with it so he had it repaired and sold it.......and has now bought a new one this year...already been in for repair. I will be the first to admit that most of those motors work fine. I don’t understand why only a few have issues. My motor has had everything replaced in it...twice.....with all the upgraded parts. I can also report that Minn Kota service was great to deal with. I wish you all the best with yours.

    Regards

    Thanks for the tips,

Just returned from a quick trial run. It was pretty windy today (and chilly!), but I was able to hold over structure without any hassle at all and actually FISH.

I used the jog function a bunch, it seems like its going to be really handy for making quick changes to cover more area.

Just as I assumed, the stow/deploy is awesome. Its definitely going to have me fishing more spots- no matter how small.
