Default Humminbird Y Cable Frustration for new set up.

Ok we have a Helix 9 mega, Helix 7 si gps, Minnkota Terrova and running the mega transducer along with a xnt 9 20 T for depth at speed . We have bought what we need to network everything EXCEPT getting the Terrova hooked in to one of the depth finders. So I called Humminbird to find out what we needed to do. The person I talked to told me we needed a 9 MIDB Y cable. I ordered this becasue she she told me we could hook both the 9 20 T and the Terrova into it, hook it to the 7 be able to back feed it through the ethernet port and get it to the 9. Well I get the y today and the sockets are not right to hook both of those up at all. It is clearly labled side/image on one side and dual beam on the other (yes I asked her at the time about if we could hook both up considering it states one is side image she told me yes we could). So now as I am reading it and it says it is good for mega transducers. The only problem I have is there is one socket on the mega cable that is blank in the y cable. So can someone tell me is this 9 M SIDB Y can actually be used on the mega or not??? Sorry would like to load pics but don't have any right now. TIA

The M is for mega so yes you can plug your mega ducer in that plug. The DB is for the high speed 2d ducer. You can mount the si ducer from the helix 7 externally to the terrova. You can run an Ethernet cable from the 7 and the terrova back to hub. Run an Ethernet cable from the 9 back to the hub. The appropriate dongles will be needed on the ff ends of the ethernet cables.

Now if you plan on having the 7 plug into the built in US2 ducer of the terrova then you will need the dongle for that as well.

The only HELIX 7's that are Ethernet capable are the HELIX 7 G2N models ...

Does your HELIX 7 model have G2N in the model name ...??

The 9 M SIDBY cable is the newest y-cable for connecting a DualBeam transducer and Side Imaging transducer to MEGA and older SI models. It replaced the AS SIDB Y and and I think MSIDB Y cables. When used, it routes the 2D sonar from the DualBeam transducer and imaging/temp from the imaging transducer. So, if you use your XNT transducer as the DB input, temp will come from the MEGA transducer. Not sure what boat you have but many with glass boats use the XP 9 20 for a shoot-thru and the y-cable setup for on-plane depth readings. You can also use the y-cable with the transom DB and imaging transducer.

In order to network the two units with the Terrova Link, you would need an Ethernet Switch. If you connect the Terrova direct to one of the units, then no possible way to network the two FFs as there is only one Ethernet connection on the units. Would recommend the Ethernet Switch to provide the greatest sharing capability. You can share everything but maps with G2N to G2N and use both FFs for interface with the Link.

Well we got it all hooked up. Hope to get it on the water in next couple weeks and see if we can make it all work. They need to make a For Dummies book on this stuff.
