I have the Solix, it does everything you are asking for. I can’t compare it to a gen 3 because I don’t have one.
It is linked to my MK Ultrex, and does have a touch screen.
How come your leaving the Gen 3? Just curious.

All I ever had was Lowrance and I never had any issues with any of my units, my last boat I just sold had a motorguide Xi5 with a Gen3 and it was a great setup, now that I’m getting a new boat I decided to go back to MinnKota because they improved there spot lock and I feel MK has a better remote and suits me better as I troll most of the time, also I do really like the option I can pick a contour lines and have the FF and trolling motor linked

I’m not afraid to try different products and don’t want to get stuck on using one brand, if I don’t like something I will make another choice, maybe I need to find something to do on these cold winter days instead of thinking about fishing gear, lol

I have 2 HB Onix units & a Lake Master map chip networked to a MK Terrova I Pilot link. The Onix is the predecessor to the Solix line & is very similar in terms of capabilities. I primarily troll & this Humminbird/Minnkota IPilot Link/Lake Master combination has been a big upgrade for me. I record & save successful trolling tracks, & then fish over them again. To control bait placement, I troll along a certain depth contour on the Lake Master map with the MK Follow The Contour feature. This FTC feature also allows me to run parallel to a depth contour at a predetermined offset distance for either trolling or casting. My usual approach is to set my transom mounted kicker motor at a desired trolling speed for propulsion & use the Terrova I Pilot link for steering. When I do this on a depth contour or along a pre-recorded track, I have a hands free trolling system. If you don't have a kicker, you can do the same thing using just the MK IPilot link compatible electric trolling motor. The only drawback is that you will use more battery juice. For me, this combination has been a game changer because I can focus on the fishing as opposed to boat control.

I also have and Onix touch screen with an Ulterra trolling motor. The Solix line is the replacement for the Onix and should work great for what you want. I troll for hybrids with my 36 volt trolling motor set at 1.7 mph. My boat weighs 4500 lbs and with AGM batteries I can troll for 6-7 hours.

So there are more models that have touch

Looking on HB website i dont see Onix, i take it it been discontinued, did Helix replace the Onix then now the Solix?

Is the Solix easy to navigate thru the menus compared to Lowrance HDS/Carbon

The helix did not replace the Onix. Onix was the top of the line with Helix being the less expensive model with less features.. Solix replaced Onix last year. Do not know about Lowrance but the Humminbird models are easy to operate and the owners manual is built in the software so you can pull it up while on the water. They update the manual when they update software. Humming bird also keeps giving free updates to their products. My Onix does almost every thing a Solix does with the updates. Humminbird has already let me know they will have a new update for my unit at the end of January .If you want to link and troll the Solix is the way to go. The Ulterra motor is great with spot lock, following contour, repeating a trolling track and the stow and deploy is awesome.

Sort of found my question on navigating thu the FF menus on a Solix
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solix is not simple. It is extremely flexible and in turn a bit more complicated. It requires the user to get involved with the setup and operation deeper than the Helix unit. Some do not want to have their face in a manual to learn all the ins and outs. I own a Solix and like the involvement of customizing all the features. Many do not want to get that involved.
