I have now had all 3 of the garmin echomap 73sv versions. I am now on the latest chirp echomap plus. Garmin’s mount make it super easy to switch them back and forth and remove your unit at the end of the day or when you pop in to have supper on the way home!

You can get an extra mount, transducer, and power cable for about $350. The latest version garmin echomap plus 73 sv is about 750. So you could do that and stay in budget. Then if you wanted to add another unit later simply buy another head unit only.

You could buy a garmin echomap chirp (non-plus version) a little cheaper now. Still can run panoptix down the road if you wanted to do that.

The main differences between plus and non-plus chirp versions are plus versions have:

    1. Touch screen/and buttons
    2. Wifi (update everything with your phone/ipad/laptop without pulling card via the active captain app)
    3. Suppose to release update Q1 2018 to allow transducer sharing across units of you have multiple screens
    4. Above update would allow you to then get a striker sv plus in addition to the echomap and be able to see and use either transducer. Striker units have gps, but doesn’t have a detailed map. So you can save waypoints, just dont have contour lines and such inless you map them yourself.
    5. You can share waypoints across network with them all as long as they are the same version.

Or better yet, just buy the garmin striker plus 73sv as the second unit, in lieu of the extra base/transducer/power cord, and still be at your budget mark and have two units that can completely network once they release the update.

The only reason i would spend anything more than garmin at this time would be for humminbird mega (mega bucks) or if i wanted to hook my trolling motor up to the unit.

Currently I'm interested in side vü and quickdraw. Linking a Trolling Motor will be for when I retire, 20years.
I've gotten myself convinced to do what you just said, two 73 sv .
Anyone have an empty room for me???? This could get ugly!!!

Where is your other thread? I'm thinking your plan is to move both between the console and bow?
