Any reviews on the new and improved Minn Kota Spot Lock?
Minn Kota was supposedly improving the spotlock on the Terrova and Ulterra models for this year (2017).
Has anyone purchased one of these trolling motors yet? I'm interested in hearing how it compares to the motorguide xi-5 in terms of holding position with the spotlock.
Right now I have Humminbird Electronics paired with a Motorguide Xi5 solely because the spotlock was better than the previous versions of the Minn Kota trolling motors. I have not been disappointed by the performance of my Motorguide. However, I am considering an Ulterra for the power trim options, as well as the tighter integration with my electronics.
Any information on this would be very helpful.

Talked to a rep it is suppose to have an external gps like the old puck style Humminbird units. Plus the one it has internal. Thinking about getting one. I have an XI5 now.

I've heard that it will use 2 GPS .... one in the trolling motor head as it has always had ....and another to be mounted at the rear of the boat and connected via Bluetooth. The 2 GPS a distance apart are supposed to be a largely responsible for the improved spot lock and overall heading and GPS accuracy.

No upgrade for the original Ulterra. You have to buy a new motor. No trade in. Heck, mine is still under warranty. I can't justify spending that much money difference for a new unit.

It would be good to know why there won't be an upgrade for the previous gen trolling motors ..... maybe there is a physical limitation. I think they would offer an upgrade if it was possible to do it.

Lucky me, my Ultera from 2015 is the only "Smart TM" I have ever had with the spot lock and with nothing to compare it to I have been very satisfied with it and how it works. Guess I had better stay away from any of the newer models, so I don't know what I'm missing.
