Sears die hard series 31 silver platinum so and I hate to say this is the 7th yr so been waiting on them to die! I can normally get 8-10 hrs out of them easy with power left over,, but past couple of months been long lining about 6.5 hrs and now cranking bandits and today they were about run down after 5 hrs so time for me to get some new batteries.

Maybe I missed it, but what is the trust on your trolling motor? I'm considering stepping up to a bigger trolling motor. I need a to replace my current unit when I get a new bow sonar unit and thought about going to 24v, or at least 2 batteries for a 12v system. Right now I run a single battery for my 12v 55pd trolling motor, group 31 battery.

Mine is 55 lb thrust of which is fine for a 1648 g 3 Jon boat and if I were you go bigger thrust. You get in a 2 ft wave in the wind of 15-20 mph and I will slow down from about 2.7 mph which is max speed to about 1.7 but the Jon will also catch a lot of wind as light as it is compared to heavier glass boat. Still, if I were in a glass boat, go heavier thrust.

I have a 16' Deep-V and pretty much maintain the same speed. 2.5mph. 2' waves aren't an issue, maybe 4 footers will be?

No, I know you won't have a problem when going into the waves with a deep V. I haven't had any problems in 4' and only when you add a wind of 15-20 constant blowing will you notice a decrease and that is only natural. How often will we fish in a wind like that? I fire the big motor up and motor to wherever and go with the wind most of the time and the waves as fish will feed into the waves. I really like the co pilot. Trolling motor is hooked up to 2 series 31 batteries and I have tons of battery power left after 8 hrs of trolling now.

A 55 should get somewhere around 4 hours at max power per battery. I don't reccomend running any motor all day over 80% power.
