Hey guys, I bought my first fish finder for my canoe. Its the Lowrance Hook 3x-DSI model (Link) and I've got a couple questions.
- Whats the best way to mount on a canoe? And the best way to mount the transducer? I dont want to mount it on the trolling motor because I take the trolling motor on and off the canoe. I was thinking in the middle of the canoe.
- It says it has dual frequency 455 or 800kHz. What does that mean? And what would be best for fishing in under 20ft of water?
- With DownScan imaging, does that only locate structure or does it locate fish as well
Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.

The DSI will have 83kHz and 200kHz 2d cone shaped Sonar beams ...and will display target echoes on the screen as blobs ...the 83kHz will have a wider cone shaped Sonar beam for more coverage ...and the 200kHz will have a narrower cone shaped Sonar beam for better detail ...
The DSI will also have 455kHz and 800kHz DI fan shaped Sonar beams ...and will display target echoes on the screen as dots for fish and structure will look like structure ...the 455kHz will have a wider fan shaped Sonar beam for more coverage ...and the 800kHz will have a a narrower fan shaped Sonar beam for more detail ...
Here is one option for mounting a xducer on a canoe ...
