If you can make a route with 20 waypoints, you can have a track with 20 track-points. And a track can have 20,000 track-points.

I had to blend info together info from different tracks and google earth to make the routes. It was my 1st time wading thru heavily wooded acreage so the existing tracks were unproven as are the routes I made. When they are proven I will save the tracks and I will delete the rest...

LittleGazoo What is the point of your last post?

Humminbird units create many track-points, so I often will take those tracks into Google Earth to remake them with less track-points when possible. I will adjust the track or straighten the track when possible(maybe in open water). I've made tracks of boat-runs, boat-paths, creeks, submerged roadbeds, etc.

For me, tracks are much more convenient display when on the water. Route waypoints result in more waypoint clutter. IMO.

    Roadbed track example:
I might make 15 individual & separate submerged roadbed tracks. I will import these into Reefmaster software and merge the 15 tracks into 1 roadbed tracks for that lake.
So I have one roadbed track with 15 track-segments. And it is one track on your HB unit.

Google Earth & Reefmaster support tracks with track-segments. You take X tracks and just merge into one track with X segments.
Here is a Google Earth snapshot of one track with many roadbeds:

I do the same for boatruns & boatpaths on a lake. All the boatruns are merged into one boatrun track(which I make green color). All boatpaths(idle only paths) are merged into one boatpath track(which I make red color). Therefore I know when to run on plane or just idle.
    Small section for an example:

As I continue to work on boatpaths, I will eventually verify a boatpath is clear and safe to run at speed. Then I will move it to the boatrun track.
This is easy to do with Google Earth and Reefmaster.

FYI: I'm on Lowrance units now, but back when I ran Humminbird units I would make HB sonar SI recordings, then use Humviewer software to make tracks since the SI would display stumps and trees to avoid. Humviewer allowed one to also waypoint stumps when they were close or on a change of direction so I would not cut a corner on that side.

Google Earth examples were easier than taking snapshots off my units with the tracks displaying on Navionics or other mapping. But let me know if you would like to see the map screen snapshot.

    Sorry for the information overload.

And FYI since you have Humminbird units. A HB Restore Defaults or software upgrade(which does a Restore Defaults) will reset all Saved Track setting back to HB default track characteristics which means I would have to reedit each track to my preferred colors & line-styles. Reediting one merged track is much easier than 50 tracks.

Thank you for your reply LittleGazoo. I appreciate your expertise and willingness to take the time to share with us . Very informative. I will study up on your proven methods and eventually try to incorporate them into a routine. I say eventually because its going to take a lot of time and homework ; that is some serious methodology... Thanks again, Terry
