    Just discovered my pinpoint gps gateway is warm all the time.

    ? You don't have your NMEA network on a switch of some sort ? Yes that can lead to problems,overheating,battery drain, and failure of network and devices. A switch in line or if you have an hds unit you can use the yellow wire to actuate a relay, to power the network.
