    Default 12V to 24V Setup

I have a boat I recently purchased that had factory 12V 8 gauge wiring and plug up front. My question is, I want to run a Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 70 LB 24V motor, but need to update everything to 24. I know how to wire batteries in parallel and series, but need to know what I need to replace. By wiring up in series to 24V, is two wire sufficient to the plug? Does a 24V trolling motor have 4 wires? I have owned 12V motors in the past, but never any 24V setups. Anyone who can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

The 70 LB 24V pulls a max of 42 amps, so I felt the 8 gauge wiring would be sufficient. Any easy to follow links would be appreciated. I see some with just two wires and some with three and four. Just want to make sure I get everything ordered and ready for when the motor arrives. Thanks again

Also any details on that Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 70LB 24V would be greatly appreciated.

You only need 2 wires and while 6 gauge is preferred the 8 gauge wire will work just fine. I use to have that motor and it was a good one.

I upgraded my BT pt175 to a 24v Tm last Winter, stock wire from batt to tm has been working fine, although I did change the single bank charger to a 3 bank, I fish a few electric only lakes and havent drawn done the batteys at all this year. Im sure someone will post a link to wiring the batteries, it was very easy although without going out to the garage and looking I couldnt tell You exactly how I did it.

Two wires is all that you need.
I've had the powerdrive V2 (in 12volt) and never had any issues.
I have a Terrova 24v on my 18 foot alumacraft. I can troll into and with the waves pushing 1.3 SOG for more than 12 hours before the batteries die. My batteries are AGM size 31 Series.

Perform a Google Search with the following and you will get more pictures, tips, and videos than you can shake a stick at: wiring a 24v trolling motor
