    Default HDS10 "NO SOURCE"

I've had a HDS10 Gen 2 w/SS for a few years now and I still get "NO SOURCE" on the structure scan. Sometimes it's worse than others. Sometimes after powering it down it won't happen again for the rest of the day and sometimes nothing helps. I've seen the posts about changing out the cable and have done that twice but it doesn't help. It has done it on and off ever since I bought it. Can it be a software problem? Does anyone have any ideas?

How is the yellow wire configured? Have you checked all the wiring connections on SS box?

I would check a few things. Especially if it has done it for awhile.

    1. I would check your transducer cable from the side scan transducer to the LSS module. Specifically, I would be looking for any type of "crosstalk" interference with other cables. Does it run close to a battery, over an unshielded cable, around another unit that gives off Radio frequency?

    2. I would look at where you have your power mounted for your LSS module. Does it go directly to the main battery or to a trolling motor battery? Trolling motor batteries are notorious for cross talk or RF issues. Another question would be, are you getting power from a accessory style rocker switch, spliced in to another line or hooked directly to the battery? Direct to the battery or to a dedicated circuit is best. Also, are you running the inline fuse? Is it close to the power source? Have you checked the fuse for malfunction, corosion, or it being loose?

    3. Have you run the latest updates from Lowrance on the unit?

Forgive me for asking basic questions. Just trying to give you some ideas on what to check for

Ethernet cables go bad. I have had 4 so far. One brand new in package was bad.

I guess I should have gave a little more information. This is the second boat the HDS10 gen 2 has been on but with a different SS module this time. This boat had a HDS10 gen 1 on it and it didn't ever do the NO SOURCE. I replaced the Gen 1 with the Gen 2 and the NO SOURCE problem happens on and off like it did in my old boat. I have two SS modules on this boat with a HDS10 gen 1 and a HDS10 gen 2. It doesn't matter where I put the Gen 2 it has the NO SOURCE problem happen at times but the gen 1 does not. This is why I like it might be a software problem. I have installed the latest updates but have not done a hard reset.

I just got a HDS7 Gen 2 and I know nothing about it. But I do remember being told you don't need the SS module with a Gen 2, just the transducer. Am I remembering wrong?

I have Gen 1 units and the only time I have ever gotten a No Source signal was
    1) was a bad Ethernet cable - the cable was bad from the mfg. I could wiggle and twist the bad end and sometimes it start working. Before I figured out it was a bad end when I turned it on it sometimes would work and sometimes not(it sounds like the problem you're having). The cable was bad right out of the box but it took me over a year to find the problem.
    2) if I forgot to power up the LSS1 - my LSS unit is on a separate switch so I have to manually turn the power on. I bring this up because even if your power is on as someone else said you may have a bad power connection.

What ever it is it sounds to me like it's a problem in the wiring or connection. You'll probably just need to trace down all the wires until you find it. If you know some else who has HDS units maybe borrow an Ethernet cable from him and see if it fixes the problem.

If it is a Gen 2 Touch that would be correct. If its a regular Gen 2 you'll need the box and transducer.

Is there a good way to test the ethernet cable without having to keep buy new ones? This is the 4th different cable I've used on this unit and I find it hard to believe that I have gotten 4 straight bad ones but that is kinda how my luck goes I guess. Thanks for the replies everyone.
