    Default new models

I had planned to buy a Lowrance HDS 10 with structure scan or a Humminbird 1198 this spring, but now plan to wait until next fall or winter. What month or time of year do Lowrance and Humminbird usually come out with the new models for the next year? I hate to buy in the fall if I could just wait a few more months and gain some improvements.

I don't believe the HDS line will be changed, there might be another software release before the fall though.

We usually have the new large sized units out in the first few months of the year calendar year. I don’t know that we will have any for 2012 though but than I don’t know that we won’t either.

Manufacturers like to announce major new products at ICAST, which is in July, with product availability listed as Spring 2012. Normally that means first shipments in February.

The other downside to buying in the fall is that your warranty clock is ticking before fishing season starts.

I'm glad you mentioned the warranty clock issue; I hadn't thought of that.

If you wait for the latest and greatest you never will get one. Like the old saying, by time you get your new electronics home, its obsolete.

    That’s funny CP!
Just pointing out though that I don’t always know about upcoming products before they get publicly announced (or I cannot talk about them if I do know something ). Besides, I don’t have the ears to be “presidential”! Rofl

I forgot about the ICAST show CatFan.

I bought a new unit this winter and when spring got here it was 100 dollars cheaper and it was the newest unit out for the year.
