I have that exact TM on a 1556 and have zero complaints.

Does spot lock work pretty good? I'm a little worried about it working on such a small boat.

It does. What concerns you about it? Being too much over adjustment on a small boat or?

Just concerned from some of the control issues mentioned here and other forums. The boat can't weigh but a couple hundred pounds, and any breeze will send it across the lake. In my mind I'm having a hard time believing it will work, but I might have to try it.

the idea is for it to hold in place against the wind, a smaller boat would be less of a problem than a larger boat in my thinking , the boat is going to aline it's self with the direction of the wind , [ bow first with the motor up front ]

I think you would be okay. I just updated my TM to a Terrova this year, my boat is a 17.5' deep v and I have to say i love that spot lock. There is a setting on the remote called "boat scale" and it allows you to tone down or ramp up how the spot lock reacts. Normal setting is "0" and you can increase or decrease 2 settings either way.
You are asking a good question and if I were you I would go right to the MK website, go to the section "support" and send MK an email. I was considering going with a 24v for my boat and the recommended I should stay with a 12v because they thought a 24v would be too much. The folks at MK are very helpful and they are quick to reply.
