Thread: Minn Kota i Pilot questions and answers

Recently replaced a defective ipilot link with ipilot on my Terrova. Used my other motor this summer but wanted to change over for the winter. Changed motors and new unit had no power. After several tests I determined it was the power supply. Neither ipilot or link unit would work although I show power to the control panel. Talked to minn Kota and we thought it was the control panel. Cost about $230 but I don't know about instalation. I did finally get power to the control panel because I get a good battery indicator and the green light comes on. I show power into the control panel but none coming out. Tried renovating the I pilot and just used the foot control without success. Am I missing anything before I go buy a new control panel?

Finally got time to take to Marine Repair Center in Springfield, expecting a bill of $250. Called me back in 45 minutes. The problem was a weak connection in the power cable. Cut out the connections and replaced soldered back. $35 total. Great place to do business with.

Glad it was a simple fix. I had a similar problem in that my DF that I was using with the built in Ipilot transducer had a weak snowy display. After trying everything else I took the top cover off the TM and discovered the connection for the transducer had worked loose and was barely connected. Once I snapped it together the problem cleared up completely. Thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this.

Can anyone tell me the big difference between a i-Pilot screen remote or the little remote with buttons only. Which one do you prefer?

The screen shows you when your prop is turning, shows your GPS speed, shows you by letters and symbols what functions your using. Lots of info verses the little mini remote like copilot uses.

Im one of the poor people who purchased a Terrova 2 months before they announced or released the much improved Spot Wish. my boat goes 10 yards in every direction. its super frustrating. to spend 2000 on a TM that is a wash. Ive twisted the wires and fingers to no avail. pretty sketchy that they wont offer a upgrade to older legacy Terrovas. says alot about Johnson.
