Glad you’re ok. Thanks for letting us know.
People,
I took my very hot soft plastic out of the microwave today and sat it on a towel. I DID NOT LOOK WHERE I SAT IT because I sat it on a tiny #8 fish hook that I did not see on the towel. Another hook fell of the shelf and into the hot soft plastic. I had diverted my attention for just a second to view a 9/11 20th year documentary that was playing on the tv today.
That other hook that had fallen from the shelf above it where I was working might have started some type of reaction with the hook on the towel. I am not an engineer so I do not know.
IMMEDIATELY I heard some sizzling and then "POW an EXPLOSION OF THE PYREX CUP.
This post should serve as a warning to others. OH yeah, I was scared because I was sitting in my chair at the desk less than two feet away from the explosion. I was so glad I was wearing an apron, oven gloves, shoes, and eyewear protection.
That is what helped prevent an even worse disaster. Please use extra caution when working with hot plastics. !!!

May God be with you. Keep CALM and STAY ANCHORED with your faith.
That could have went badly. Glad to hear you were unharmed. That hot plastic is nasty stuff.
I pulled a bowl of hotdog chilli out of the microwave a couple of months back and had it explode in my hand. Hot glass and chilli everywhere made a huge mess

Rule number 1......when working with hot soft plastics...turn the T-V off
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

You can never be too cautious with working with hot plastic I’ve only had one explosion in 20 years one of my Pyrex cups popped when I took it out of the oven and set it on the table like Mike said wear protective gear when working with the plastic and another thing don’t let people stand around you while you were working with the plastic in my shop I usually lock the door or nobody can get in unless they knock.
