Default Getting Started with Soft Plastic Baits

Well my dad always said I had the patience of a jack rabbit with it's tail on fire...I have been thinking of getting into soft plastic's off and on for 5 years. For my Birthday my wife bought me my first mold. It's a two inch crappie carrot from Do-it. I ordered me some Plastisol from Dead on Resin, both open top molds.

My local Walmart must not have anyone in the sporting goods dept. that crappie fishes as they only have the bare minimum of anything, and when asked about it, all I get is that's what they send us. I worked in a Walmart for a bit after I got out of the Army a while back, like 17 yrs ago, and if the dept. head doesn't order it, it's not going to come in...So, I'm going to see about making me some stuff in colors I want, and think will catch fish.

Mold on left is of the 2" shadpole, and the POP mold is of 2" stinger tail shad, and of some crappie magnets. Not looking to sell, just get my feet wet in pouring plastics till I can afford some more aluminum molds. Being on 60% disability for my back, knees and ankles don't leave a lot after the bills, so the home made molds will get me started. Thanks for reading, and feel free to comment if you like.

Looks good. I’ve been thinking of dabbling some with it. Those handmade molds interest me. Keep us updated how it goes. Thanks

Thanks SuperDave336. When you decide to start on your molds you can find the process to make them on You Tube. It's really not that hard. And the resin can be bought in a kit at Hobby Lobby.

Congrats on the carrot mold! The possibilities are endless now. Laminate combinations and tip color ideas will keep your mind busy even when it shouldn't be.

Thanks for the welcome Ship. I'm still getting things together. Hopefully this weekend I'll be getting momma a new Micro for the Truck, and then that micro she now has goes to heating my plastic. I am starting with Dead On Plastics plastisol, and some M-F colors, glitter. Still want to get some heat stabilizer, the will start. I made a six lure POP mold, and a 5 lure resin molded. Both are top pour.
Not real sure I'm ready to attempt to make an injection mold. Guess it's a confidence thing. Any way thank you for the welcome.

Injection is much easier and safer than pouring. Once you try it you will never look back. Be sure to wear gloves and eye care. Hope these videos help my friend.
