Default Wacky rigging isn't just for bass !

Everyone has heard or used the Senko wacky rigged for bass. By accident I discovered a wacky rig for panfish using a 2.5" stick lure and 1/32 oz jig.

It doesn't look like it would have any action but believe me it has the same body/tip wobble as the Senko on the drop. Last year I caught over 100 fish on it in water 2'-10'. Much of the time I wouldn't let it drop all the way to the bottom but twitch it mid-depth and let drop a few feet.

Here are a few fish that clobbered it:

It caught fish in water over 85 degrees:

    and even caught catfish:

So I figured, why not cut the curl tails of two grub and fuse the two bodies together using a candle:

    Caught just as many fish!
The same can also be rigged the usual way and worked real slow to catch many species:

Now if Bob (Snake) can only make these .....

Thanks for sharing this. I've read about this before but have never tried it. I will this summer for sure. Now to find a 2.5" stick bait mold.

I do a lot of wacky rigging for panfish on a drop shot. Powerbait trout worm or berkley gulp mini earthworm or angle worm wacky rigged will catch any fish in the lake.

Exactly Bob! I'll most of us that 1000 curl tail grubs lying around that have been forgotten. After having had fantastic success using mini-sticks from the mold, I figured - hey, why not fuse two grub bodies together ! All of the ones pictured worked regardless of color and if the color wasn't to my liking, I used Spike-It dye. It's so easy to make a lure that can be wacky rigged or rigged the usual using a light ball head jig.

Thanks everyone for the interest shown, but do yourself a favor : two grub bodies and a candle are all you need. Fish of all species bite them when twitched mid depth. Maybe they think the shape is a caterpillar but in any case they can't help themselves! Who would of thought the shape would have an action fish respond to ?

Nice read spoon. I used to love to fish a wacky style worm for LMB by tossing it to the edge of grass and simply letting it tumble down the edge of the grass toward the bottom.
It was definitely a deadly technique. I also used a wacky rigged worm on a drop shot rig for bass (at various depths) and discovered that it caught crappie a gills too.

    Correction:
I'll most of us that 1000 curl tail grubs lying around that have been forgotten
Meant to say : I'll bet most of us that have 1000 curl tail grubs lying around can now put them to good use.

Note: The grub bodies shouldn't be too thick or the action is killed.
