    Default Homemade Injector for molds

Now harken back to your doctoral thesis recall Plastic cuts Skin, Aluminum cuts Plastic, Steel cuts Aluminum, and Tungsten Carbide cuts everything else!

Today I had finished up my Jerry-rigged, half coolant and half aluminum soft plastic injector for get this... NOTHING! Had some spare aluminum round stock in the shop, faced and turned it down, drilled the body out to 1" and added an o-ring. The o-ring is rated for 400 degrees and I put it through its paces this afternoon. After some testing, it is concluded that the injector works and fills up the mold 7/10 times (sometimes I can't get the plunger the whole way up and I get half a mold done).

How is about that for budget beating?

I'll take a picture of them right now. Mind you, these baits were made with a manual milled mold, so they aren't perfect.

Sorry about the pictures being sideways... Apple is stupid!

Anyway, I modded the most a bit today by using a sharpened and polished carbide boring insert. I initially double drilled and double reamed the hole, but it left a lot of marks which damaged the o ring. When I smoothened it, the o ring glided much better, and with a dab of olive oil around the ring, it was almost effortless! $75 for an injector? Pfffft!

Looks good to me . Some of your sticking problem might be a little by pass on the plunger . The residue will ball up behind the o ring and cause drag or it looks to be pretty thick walled . The whole thing needs to be warmed top to bottom the first time or you could get drag there to . Just my worthless two cent . But if i need an injector I know who to beg . LOL

I might back a MK II before I'll buy one. The o ring just need a little lubrication and it slides smoothly... Good thing for good tooling!
