Thread: custom molds

to get a custom mold made that will not be resold to anyone it cost 1500 to 4000. The reason for the high cost is they cant recoup their cost by splitting up the programming and machine cost it takes to do the first mold of your design. You must get them to sign a contract that states it is your design and they are not allowed to resell it. You can have a lot of machine shops do this kind of work but you want one that has done injection molds (of some type) so that your mold has the proper venting.They will make you a single cavity proto type mold to try and make sure it all works for you then when everything is good to go the will cut your multi cavity mold. You can usesally make one change after the prototype mold, after that the cost goes up for more changes.
