After reading these post I admit it is terrible to burn yourself but even worse to burn your friend sitting away from you when you do something stupid. I had just changed the o-ring and put oil in the tube for a smooth glide on the injector. Dumb me shot the mold at a little farther reach and it happened. Crap splattered at the port of the mold and it went every direction but mostly hitting my friend another cdc member in the face and arms. 2nd degree burn ain't nothing to play with. Even though he was a few feet from me it got him good. Lucky he hasn't sued me but he's a great fellow and said Crap happens. What a hell of a guy. BTW yellow mustard works for burns and it did with my friend to put the fire out along with cold water. But ER later in the night for the burn increasing heat and not being able to get comfortable. Just so you know don't rub your skin if you get it on you the skin will just roll of with the plastic. My friend is doing good now and almost healed completely.

If you have an Aloe Vera plant close by IMMDEIATELY RUB some of the lube from the leaves on it. I have had to do this many times when I started shooting hot plastisol. Also, be sure your mold is clamped tightly. I stopped using clamps and now use a shop vise.

Lot of good stuff here and it should be read before anyone gets ready to dive into shooting soft baits. I now am more aware of the surroundings and don't let anyone near me to watch. It came at an expense of burns not wanted or intended. Just glad our friendship was strong and even more now!

I see some use small gloves and all I had was welder gloves at the time. They have many cooled plastics above the wrist now so I’m glad they have saved me some burns. I know a guy also that can swear by wearing shoes instead of sandals while shooting hot plastics. He learned the hard way.
