DCM,Curious how the modified Walmart grass shrimp jigs worked for ya ? I was down the crappie hole today and got some nice ones on various jigs. Some other fellers you'd recognize got some enven nice ones on minnies.Took a golf ball retriever down and cleaned up a bunch of floats that were hung up in the trees.Wish I wasn't so cheap but it bugs me when I see em hanging there. Here's a post from another forum I am on.Disregard he names to lazy to edit.
Reports have been quiet so figured I'd post a few from New Castle County,DE and Kent County,MD. Most of these spots are lightly fished with limited access and room for only a few fisherman. For those reasons gonna be general descriptions although a few reading will recognize some spots.Anyone wants more specific locations P.M. me and I will provide them.
First spot is a couple of ponds around Winterthur Gardens off Montchanin Rd.This pond has produced some nice bass, crappie and bluegills. Most productive lures were small crappie magnet jigs but did land bass on a larger Road Runner jig tipped with a rubber tail. Also got a nice bass on a homemade black jig provided to me by one of the finer bucktail tiers on the forum.
Heading South are a few spots on the upper Christiana River, near a bridge and dam, that have been good. Both spots have been producing crappie, yellow perch, bass, bluegill and pickeral.Small jigs tipped with Gulp Alive minnows, jigs or crappie nuggets have been working.
Recently went with my Dad to a small branch of Cyprus Creek in Kent County, Md.He loves crappie fishing and this spot produced plenty as well as some nice bass and a few white perch. Used red crappie magnets as well as Gulp Alive 1" minnows with much success.
Wanted to give Bucktail Bob and Hegsthomas credit for helping ween me off the live bait thing.Over the years i would analyze there reports/pics,as well as others, and have learned much from them.Hope to see some more of there reports here soon.
My question concerning access is for my Dad.He is in his mid eighties and is having trouble getting into the rowboat or can't walk to many of the spots I fish. Trying to find a spot someone can recommend, a spillway or pond shoreline, that is good for someone with limited mobility. Looked into St. Andrews and Silver Lake in New Castle County recently but both have changed for the worse access wise than I remember.Anyone have suggestions for anywhere in Kent or Sussex County I'd appreciate it.

You can go to Silver Lake Park in Dover. There is a lot of shorline access below the spillway.
