    I used to use wild shiners for bass, and they died easily in my live well during hot days. So I got two five gallon buckets, added ice to the bottom one, slipped the other bucket on top and added lake water. This cooled the water above and the shiners became sleepy. I could grab them easily, and about the time they got put on the hook, they began to thrash about.

    It was my experience then that fish didn’t need a bubbler if they were cooled. They would last all day long without any added oxygen. It slowed down their metabolism obviously, and reduced their demands for oxygen. I also felt that it reduced their emissions and secretions which no doubt is playing a huge role in your situation. Pumps also produce heat, and can work to warm lake water. A dirty live well could possibly have nasties that inhibit the gills from up-taking oxygen. There are multiples working against you here, that are not as influential when the water is cool.

    Maybe sacrifice some of that storage for all them lures ……. for a larger aquarium.
    Maybe they will bite this one……

    yep , the ammonia is death at to many ppm , and then the oxygen depravation too , when chilled they go into slow mo and it helps bunches , we put 2 one gallon ice blocks in the livewell when we summer ketch , keeps them quite happy for about 3 hours or so with straight up lake water .
    they come out frisky as a spring fish and difficult to handle every trip , I like to stand back and watch while folks fight with them to get them into the ice chest , really good boat ramp entertainment for sure .....

    [QUOTE=ChoogieChunker;
    Yall keep a lot more fish in them than I did though so I’m sure it’s harder keeping 25 or whatever you weigh in than 5 bass.
    All that said, I still don’t know what to do about any fish being battered from being sloshed around in rough water rides.[/QUOTE]
    Mostly best 7 far as I know, our local club tournaments used to be 10 fish, then went to 7. Far as the battering, I’ve seen the bass guys using pieces of pool noodle cut the length of the livewell, taking up most of the air space between water and lid.
    Back when I was fishing tournaments, a guy I fished with a few times was handy with sourcing and rigging stuff off ebay - he put together a rig to pump water out of livewell, through a automotive heater core in a cooler full of ice, back to the livewell. Had a thermal sensor in the livewell, you could adjust a digital readout to cut the pump on and off, maintain a temp.
    Maybe we were being too aggressive with our temp goals - but I do remember that it would melt a staggering amount of ice in that cooler. You’d have to have a pontoon ice supply boat follow you around lol

    I think that’s what they were talking about on the morning radio show. They are suing them because they aren’t consistent with the rules. A lawyer weighed in saying the whole thing would probably be settled in mediation.

    People saying the marlin from 2019 was bit, but it was postmortem mutilation from now fitting in the boat. People (not yall) are so quick to react with emotion and lack of facts. This was 110% a violation of the rules, and bush league by the captain to take it to court citing someone else's fish.

    He's not going for the win, he's just trying to get some "shut up and go away" money.

    The right bite in the right place increases the odds of landing said fish, if say the last 10/th of the fish (tail) is bitten off, or if if bitten and it bleeds out. The rule is in the spirit of giving a 1:1 battle with the fish, and not the fish against predators AND anglers. MOST of the upper crust saltwater/billfish tournies have this rule.

    Thanks. I’m not familiar with these types of tourneys. I learned something today.
