here tell it was a rule put in place to stop them from backing over them with the boat and propping the fish to subdue it ,,,,
no clue here , but to be sure we backed up to lots a huge Vela in Costa Rica to help subdue them , minus the prop job ...

I crappie fish all year long and have never had an issue with fish dying in my livewell. Except for gut hooked fish. Gut hooked have a 50/50 chance. Not sure how you all use your livewell?
I have an Alumacraft 165 Competitor Sport with 18-gallon livewell. First fish I fill the livewell and leave the timer on all day. Timer runs 1 minute every 7 minutes. It draws in fresh water and old water dumps thru the overflow drain. Never had an issue with dead fish. not even when pleasure fishing and catching 2-man limits of 25 Crappie each. All of my tournament fishing has been local clubs, with short time frames between boat off the water and weigh-in, 30 minutes of less. Maybe teh issue is after your off the water?

I used to use Mino-Mizer to keep my minnows alive in a 5 gallon bucket, then cooler. Never an issue with minnows dieing during the summer days, even when teh bucket was stored outside under the camper in the summer. I usually get 5 dozen or so minnows per 3-4 day weekend. Mino-Mizer stopped production and now I use a bubbler, like a fish tank. It runs off 12 accessory outlet, or lithium battery. I keep it plugged into an accessory port I added to teh boat just for it. Minnows survive all day on teh boat, over-night (even with lid locked to keep teh coons out. I live in central Illinois where our summer temps average the 90's. Maybe it's hotter where you are?

I think the key is replacing the water. Keep it fresh. I have observed minnows in hot water tend to get mushy, so I add swap water every day and add a couple ice cubes late in the day. Although I don't use ice for anything, except the minnows. So adding ice doesn't happen that often. Mostly water swaps.

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!
