If by "tightline" you mean fishing straight down over the side of the boat (and the boat not moving) ... then, yeah, it's not a problem.

If you're referring to the boat moving (esp. under TM power) then the slip floats are not particularly effective because they will slide down the line, rendering your bait depth very shallow, due to the water pressure against them (& the bobber stop is above the float, so it's taken out of the equation).

I was just thinking. If you wanted to float with a slip bobber and not have it slip, you could tie on an extra bobber stop above the bead under the bobber. Then to keep the bobber from slipping up the line simply slide the bottom bead up to stop the bobber.

Put a slipknot then a bead above your bobber to adjust your bait depth and you are golden.

I use a knot above the float made from a piece of heavy sewing thread then a bead under it. They are made commercial and I think called slip bobber knots.

I tie the knots with the line I have. I buy the cheap bass pro crappie line that comes in 2000 ft spools and then buy the beads in a pack. Nothing wrong with you’re doing!
