A old timer taught me to not cast toward the bank but to cast parallel to the bank to keep you bait in the strike zone much longer. I can't wait for spring to get here.
I discovered that by mistake out fishing last week. Wasn't doing much with the bobber so decided to just cast the jig head. Well casting to shore got not much so for the heck of it, I casted up the shore line. Jig stayed about the same distance from shore all the way back and I started getting fish. But something else I noticed was they seem to hit softer. A soft stop for a sec turned out to be fish. Most fish I've caught dragging lure's, hit and run. Didn't feel like the crappie were doing that. I have a rod I bought just for kokanee that has a very slow tip. Not sure I could feel the hit with it.

All I've used for slip bobber's so far are about 3/4" cork balls. Fish really pull them under when they hit. I get lucky and there's a bit of chop on the water and I just leave it sit, water does the jigging for me. Otherwise I pop the cork just a bit and bring it toward me. Got a few of those longer skinny float's to try out and the resivor went almost dry on me! Heard that it will take a couple three years of good snow pack in the montains to fill it again, probably be low on fish then!
