    Default Too Much???

Can you over brush a dock?

Me and a buddy of mine put out 8 nice size cedars average size was 8' to 10' in 18' fow, we put them down the same finger (walkway) that runs between the two boat slips hanging 4 on one side and 4 on the other side from the dock support post so they probably touch each other underneath the dock. They've been wet now for about a year, before we put these out you could catch a few fish but never much of a mess, since they've been out I think we caught a total of 3 fish there, was expecting much better results.

I fish one dock that is essentially a brush pile in the boat slip with trees hanging down on all the corners. It is almost always good for some fish.

not sure is me, seen that action before myself, they might be there up under the dock and not venturing out of the darkest shade?
but I have seen that out in open water as well , a good spot with sparse cover and brushed it up good and went south hard, no clue why is me ....
I suspect several things, maybe the change is too dramatic and or it holds predators they dont like or possibly the cover is alien to them and is putting off something unseen chemical or smell wise ....?

one other scenario is the cover is so large it spread out the fish to the point of a dozen fish in a dozen piles one each ?

Placed in rows from shallow to deeper with a PVC ‘ anchor deepest has generally worked well for the past ‘ projects ‘ in most spots. With the variety of depth there will almost always be larger fish of various types in and around them…

couple docks I fish have brush all around I know because I get hung up a lot but lots of folks ketch lots o crappie off of them.

Don't know the answer but as a experiment I would take the middle ones out and see if that helps. that way lots more open water around.

On our annual xmas tree drop put several in slip next to my toon and then several more in slip next to neighbors toon several years ago and have not caught even one keeper crappie off of them.

yet I put one tree branch on other side of slip in december wedged into the lift there and by next day caught 8 keepers including some slabs off of it. Riddle me that one batman.

guys who put them out regularly tell me that if they get a third that produce fish they have done well.

FWIW when we had place at LOZ years ago and we had 4 slips for our various boats I had cedar at each corner and they would produce a few off every one just about every day.

I think you can put in so much cover the fish have too many hiding places . I prefer stake beds as you can fish all it with few hang ups
