    Default shabbona lake structures

the shabbona lake sportsman club have been adding this cover for several years now. with approval of the park superintendent and biologist. at shabbona state park the trees have broke off at the water line due to age. theses trees are in water up to 32ft .this project helps in 3 ways . marks the stump so its not a hazard, allows for a boat to tie up and the branches give great crappie and gill habitat. most trees or large branches are 20-28 ft long. we put the branches in the boat and bolt and nail a chain to the cut trunkabout4ft down. drop it over on the stump and wrap the chain around the stump bolt and nail . then move toward the floating tips and tie on a concrete block . instant habitat. i like it even better when the new branches get hung up on old branches and creates a horizontal or angled branch.s we have done 14 this summer and will do more next month closer to the upper creek channel. just waiting now on the thermocline to show up.
i have a club member attempting to post some pics
