I would use 20 oz soda bottles. 1 liter if you must.
I’m wanting to drop some small diameter green trees /no leaves, and have them stand vertical or at least at 45 degrees. I can figure out the weight for the base but wondering about floatation to keep the tree from lying horizontal on the bottom in the mud. I’ve done lot’s of bed building just never done this particular method of floating the tops. Any suggestions for flotation is appreciated. I have a unlimited supply of small gum trees so thought about using them. Thx.

Was saying 20 oz bottle as it will hold a branch up right. Now how big of branch you’re talking might be bigger than what I’m talking about. If you have 1 gallon jugs then use them.
I like to use stuff that won't lie flat on the bottom . Not sure a small bottle will be enough lift . Too big and it will take much more weight to sink . I like to fix it to a block or in bucket of concrete with cross rods to keep upright
