    Default Low cost bamboo habitat

Well I had to figure out a lower cost way to place boo. I found that useing a weed eater with a saw blade worked really good for cutting it down and cutting to the lenghts needed. Then I used a cordless drill with a small drill bit to drill holes just above the bottom joint. Then I used .095 weed eater line to join about 10-12 pecies of boo together with a square knot followed by a 3/8" long piece of 1/4" copper tube squeezed on the line close to the knot to keep the knot from slipping. I then used a sand bag full of sand/dirt to sink it by running a zip tie through the bag just below the tied up top of the sand bag.
I already had a 2' piece of 1/4" copper tubing that I cut into 3/8" long pieces so I don't know what it would cost. But I would say that they would be less than $1.00 for each bamboo habitat. So far I have built and dropped 9 of these and they seem to be the best cost effective way that I have found. Hope this will give others ideas and if anyone has more input I am always looking for better cheaper ways.
This is a lot cheaper than a bag of 80# Quickrete which cost $4.70 a bag at Lowes.

Fish habitat: "Build it and they will come".

cost: sand bag= 32 cents each
zip tie = 20 cents each
trimmer line = 20 cents each
    -------------
total 72 cents each + ??? copper tube cost which will keep the string knot from slipping loose

That seams to be a simpler way to transport to a location also. Could you show us a picture of this? I have a borrow pit lake that I fish and it is void of any structure and have been thinking of adding some structure and this sounds like something I'm gonna try. Thanks for the idea.

Sorry I didn't think to take pictures at the time I made these. I have already dropped them so they can get to work gathering up crappie. When I make up some more maybe I will think to make some pictures.

Without the Boo mounted vertically in concrete, how did you get it to stand up and not just lay flat on the lake bottom?

I have been experimenting with sandbags also. As you say way cheaper than quickcrete.
Been keeping a couple bags filled with gravel in the boat at all times.
When I'm out fishing, and if and when I see something I can drag off the bank, just a couple of zip ties and down she goes.
Very user friendly I might add.

I used about 10-12 pieces. This was fishing pole size ( between a quarter to fifty cent piece size base) was about 12-16' tall. I may should have called it fishing cane instead of bamboo. I would cut it in half when I need to put in the shallower water but still using all the 10-12 whole ones cut into in each bundle. The really good thing about this is it is growing right beside my lake and the park ranger told me I could use all I wanted.
