Default Need help learning how to fishing this

I am not a very experienced crappie fisherman but I have been fishing this pond that I think has tons of potential if fished correctly. It is man made pond that is a dug out ditch. There is 0 Structure in it except for a fallen tree at the begnin of the 6 ft run area. It is 3 acres large and about 8 yeas old.My wife and are the only ones that have access to it so there is no fishing pressure. Ive been fishing it for about 2 months and this is what I have noted. There are channel cats Never caught one smaller than 5 lbs. Bluegill none smaller than my hand and lots of crappie. I never leave with less than 15 in 4 hours of fishing for them . They are ranging from 6 inches to 2 lbs. I caught 3 LB crappie yesterday. My wife fishes for bass and between her and I we have never caught any bass larger than 12 inches but a lot of them. The pond is surrounded by Cattails and we fish it on a flatbottom johnboat. Yesterday I noticed that The weeds have gotten really bad and there is a bed of weeds 5 ft off the bottom that you always bring up or get on your line if you go too deep. I know this pond is a gem and I want to be able to fish it with more success. What advice could you give me to teach me how to fish it for crappie? Here is a picture of the pond along with the approximate depths.

Im not exactly what the problem is to be honest with you. If you are leaving with no less than 15 fish then I would say you're doing pretty well. I have started a couple ponds from the beginning to when someone else bought the land and I didnt take care of it anymore and if you have bass and crappie in the same small area, once you have dwindled the numbers of bigger size fish, the other predator fish (being bass) will end up taking over, maybe not completely but you wont see the same numbers you did before catching higher numbers of one species without catching the equal number of the other species. If the weeds are dying off in the winter and coming back in the summer then I would let it keep going the way its going because the fish are using it for cover. It honestly sounds like your pond is healthy and doing just fine if nobody is fishing it hardly and you have the good number of fish you say you do. The only thing I would watch is if the weeds start taking over and not going away and paying attention to whether or not the average size of fish gets smaller and smaller.

adding some PVC and long lasting hardwoods in the deeper waters cant hurt... be careful and safe doing so if you choose to. Enjoy !
