Default Peas, cornbread, squash and onions.

Sometimes it happens… a meal with no meat. Very rarely does this happen because I think I have to have meat of some kind. Last night was the exception, had a fresh mess of peas and squash. Stewed the squash down with some onions and butter, made a pone of cornbread, peas in the pressure cooker, then commenced to make myself miserable. Now this may not be appealing to some but I grew up eating peas, cornbread and mayonnaise all crumbled up and mixed together. Takes me back to my childhood every time I eat it, was one of the first solid foods eaten by the kids throughout my family for generations. Makes me a happy fella!

I've never had that but it sure does look good. I'll have to give that a try sometime. Thanks for sharing.

That looks good, never heard of the mayo, peas, cornbread mix. I like mayo so may give it a try. My grandmother used to eat cornbread with buttermilk like that. Three items she cooked most every day was cornbread, pinto beans and rice, meat was a luxury.

I grew up watching my grandmother with her nightly milk and bread too. She went through buttermilk faster than the sweet milk by far. When I was little, you could not pay me enough to even try it, but now, I don’t eat it every day like she did but I do like me some buttermilk and cornbread.

My brother liked to eat mayo on red beans growing up. I liked ketchup on white beans. Cornbread anytime.

Cornbread, mayonnaise, and any kind of bean is a staple in my world. Throw in some hot peppers and I'm all in.
