That bridge isn’t super far from me but I have never fished it... I always heard it was a good place for white bass and crappie... or it used to be???
Before the Steam plant closed down access to that area of the river, it was an excellent place to boat and bank fish for all species that swim in Cherokee, especially Walleye, Sauger, White Bass and Stripers. Basically, all of your river running (traveling Fish) would head up that way each Spring on their annual migratory attempt to spawn. Being landlocked by the upper spillway (Dam) the fish were and still are easy pickings in the right conditions at the right time of year. Now that most access is closed off, not as many people fish up there from the bank, and if you have a jet boat that area can be a virtual Candyland in the early Spring when other boats cannot access the area. I would ride up and down both sides of the river above and below the bridge and look for the people fishing from the banks and the boats, they will let you know where the fish are and the good spots to try.
