    Default Cooking carp question


    Has anyone cooked carp and if so what recipe or method did you use? I have only eaten carp once that I know of and it had been cut up into small chunks and pressure canned and then prepared and cooked like salmon patties. I didn’t know it was carp and thought it WAS salmon patties.

    The flying silver carp taste great. If one jumps in my boat or runs into it, knocking itself out, I will get it. Cleaning instructions are on U-Tube. The are fairly easy to clean!

    Once upon a time,me and a buddy caught a couple decent bass,and a nice carp,We mix all the fillets together,coated and deep fried them.Not knowing which fillets were which,upon tasting we had no trouble telling the carp from the bass.......the bass tasted horrible

    Get a medium sized carp about 5-8 lbs. Remone innards. Season well with salt and pepper.
    Can put lemon slices and aromatics in cavity.
    Nail it to a clean cedar plank.
    Place it on top of your roof for July and August
    On Labor Day, take it off of the roof and scrape all the carp off.
    Then eat the board.
    A nice white wine, or moonshine pairs well.

    The carp is the number ONE food fish in the world btw
    not kidding either and in some countries its a preferred fish to eat
    as far as how to prepare them I don't know , but when the knights of Columbus fish fry runs out of catfish they start frying carp and not a souls ever knows it , until I just let the carp out of the bag anyway

    About 20 years or so ago we made a couple of trips each summer to Kenosha WI to fish for salmon on Lake Michigan. At the end of the day we would visit the local taverns across from the harbor and they did something I’ve never seen anywhere else. They would harvest carp from the lake, cut their tails off, gut them and hang them to bleed out. After a while they took the scales off, cut the heads off, then they used a band saw and cut them in half along the backbone. Then they seasoned them and smoked them. When you ordered a pitcher of beer they served a half slab with a pickle fork in it and you picked the meat out and put it on a cracker with cheese. In a word it was AWESOME! I’ve never tried to do it because I’ve not fished for carp but if I did this would be on my radar to try to duplicate.

    suckers are 10 times better than carp.

    When I was about 15 I went ( what they called grabbing ) for suckers. 5 or 6 people would wade up a small creek and when they reached a place where the fish could go no further they would start grabbing them. It was great fun and mind you I never caught one but collectively they wound up with about 15 to twenty fish. They were friends of my aunt and uncle who I was with. I wasn’t there for the fish fry so don’t know how they tasted. Haven’t thought of that in years and years. Thanks for jarring my memory.

    My dad had a great recipe involving digging a hole in the ground where you affix the carp on a board, apply seasonings then place the board with fish on coals in the bottom of the hole. Cover with plywood for about two hours. Remove the board with the carp on it and throw it away and eat the board. Dad did not believe in eating carp. (Smile)
