    Crappie feed up. In other words, crappie look up to feed, fish above them. If your marking fish in 8' of water, set your depth at 6'. Some prefer to put the bait at 8', I don't. The fish are comfortable at 8', I want them to come up grab the bait and take it back down to 8'. Then I know I have a bite. If I fish at 8', I may never know they took the bait until I pull up the lure and feel something heavy. By then, its too late to set the hook.
