Now by no means is this a Midwest bruiser or my personal best which is a 127" but a good one nevertheless. It is however my best deer I have taken off of the club land that I have been on for 18 yrs. Don't know if that speaks of my hunting capabilities or the land.
The county I'm in is Hancock an has been under quality management for several years now. An we have seen a drastic improvement of the buck to doe ratio. Now we just need them to grow older.( guess I shldnt shoot 3 yr olds)
The rut activity has been good now for the past 2 wks or so I have only been here for the past few days have seen some chasing an does that have been absolutely crazy from rolling around to panting an falling over. Did get a decent video on my phone of a small buck giving a doe a run for her money.
This mornings hunt was full of good views from a skinny pine an close to 45 ft high. My club is on the edge of lake Sinclair. So my morning usually starts with the shrill of a wood duck leaving the roost an the fish busting water. First deer I saw was at 8 an it was to does which didn't seem to have went into estrous yet as there glands were snow white. An they just had browse on there mind as they slipped thru an cut over quietly. The after watching an listening to a couple of old fisherman wonder why there was a random boat tied to the bank. Where I had left it long before daylight. My morning added a nice 8 pt with bonus kick brow tines came cruising the edge of the cut over. After looking him over an be ending quite happy with his appearance I let my hand loaded 130 grn .270 bullet meet its mark. An let the shaking began. I have killed well over 70 deer an plenty of bucks an I still get the chills. I pray it never stops.
