A spur of the moment trip worked out well this afternoon for myself and Debbie. We fished for around 4 hours and caught over 30 crappie...4 channel cats...7 yellow bass...9 bream...1 drum.
I also lost a nice bass right at the boat. I didn't have much gas and no fish finder so I went to a reliable rocky bank and point and we caught all of our fish there. A lot of shad in the area for most of the time that we were there that seemed to keep the fish active even while it was sunny later in the afternoon.
The bite really picked up about 2:30 and I lucked up on a couple of nice crappie in about 8-10 feet within 10 minutes of each other. The first was right at 14 inches and the second a smidge over 14.25 inches and most of the other fish in between were keepers. Deb caught most of the crappie and cats but I got braggin' rights ( for a change ) with the larger ones.
We caught a lot of the fish casting 1/24 and 1/32 oz. BG and curly tail jigs but most of the fish were caught vertical jigging 1/16 oz. jigs tipped with minnows on a drop-off over some brush piles. I didn't want to leave with the good bite that was going on but work gets in the way of my fun sometimes.
