• Congrats crappiepappy

    Crappiepappy in his younger days.

Officially retired at 0730AM on April 1st ... pretty much slept the day away, as well as most of that night (too much excitement for an "old man" )

Day two (April 2nd) ... pretty much a "normal" day. Spent the wee hours of the morning on here, watching the news & some shows I taped, cooking & eating ... you know, "normal" stuff (well, normal for me, anyway). Then, having slept so much the day before, and knowing I didn't have to keep any kind of sleep schedule (to survive the 9.5hrs of night shift) .... I decided to go fishing around 1130AM. There's a city park lake about 2mi from my place, that's been turned into a FINs Lake (Fishing in Neighborhoods lake) ... where the KDFWR stocks it, and people without the means to travel or without a boat can have the opportunity to fish. This lake has been stocked with ~12,000 Rainbow Trout (8"-10") & ~2300 Channel Catfish (12"-16") from the KDFWR hatchery. About 1/10 of the stocked fish are tagged ... and turning (mailing) in the tags will get you a pewter pin shaped like the species caught, and enter you into a monthly drawing for up to $100 cash.
I've probably caught around 20 Trout (received 4pins for tagged fish) so far ... but have yet to catch any of the cats. I went armed for cats, with nightcrawlers & chicken liver ... and ended up catching my daily limit (5) of TROUT Two were caught on worms, the other three were caught on chicken livers
The creel check LEO stopped by to measure any fish caught that morning ... and he cracked up when I told him what I caught them on.
I had packed a lunch, figuring I'd probably be there for a few hours ... but I never even opened up the cooler bag. I had my limit within <45mins, so I never had a moments peace to sit down & eat Lunch. The LEO told me that the last stocking was about a week ago, and they were probably pretty hungry. They must have been ... since the first "chicken liver" fish took all but the fat/gristle off the hook, and I never added any more. I just cast back out, with whatever remnants were left on the hook, and they would be chewing on it within a matter of minutes

Came home, ate Lunch, cleaned fish, watched some more TV ... checked on here ... and called it a day around 4PM. Slept until around Midnight, & started my "normal" routine all over again. I'm figuring that by extending my day by about 2hrs of awake time, each day, I should be on a "awake during the day, asleep during the night" schedule by this weekend. I'm hoping to be able to mount the two extra Hi-tec brackets and my fuel/water separator on the boat, then ... clean the boat up (after 5 months of non-use) ... and be ready to start WHENEVER I WANT TO

I'm thinking I can get used to this "retirement" thang .... preeeettttttyyy easily !! Gonna give it my best shot, and see what happens

Thanks all !! I had to laugh when I saw the picture that Slab put with this article. Yep ... them were the "good 'ol days", for sure. I'm just hoping to experience some more fishing trips, just like THAT one. Maybe a little warmer/dryer weather ... but, just as successful and as much fun.
