• Can't you smell that smell? by Brad Wiegmann

What’s the one thing an angler can add to a lure that will increase their odds of catching a crappie? If you answered scent you are right. However, not all scents are easy to apply or actually get a crappie to react and strike a lure.

Crappie can smell that smell. Crappie can smell by passing water into the forward opening allowing it to flow past a crappie’s sensory cells than exit out through the back opening. These 4 nostrils are two nostrils in and two nostrils out. As the water passes through the nostrils crappie smell to investigate for possible mates, avoid predators or smell for food.

Adding an attractant to a lure allows the angler to mask the human or negative smell; in addition to adhering a substance that could incite a strike. “It’s taken several years of testing to develop the perfect formula to attract crappie and get a product to adhere to a soft plastic lure, hard lure or hair jig,” said Ed Moes creator and founder of www.crappie.com website, the original SLABSAUCE and now the new SLABSAUCE Magic Brush, “Now I have developed a new way of applying the original SLABSAUCE to fishing lures. SLABSAUCE Magic Brush formula uses a paint brush applicator to apply SLABSAUCE to the lures.”

The story behind the new applicator for SLABSAUCE Magic Brush starts with Moes fishing with Billbob and crappie fishing guide (Crappiegillsnmore Guide Service) Doug Wynn. Crappie fishing was slow and Billbob wanted to put some SLABSAUCE on his lures, however, Wynn was hesitant. Wynn was not excited about anyone on his boat spraying or pouring any kind of scent in his boat. Nevertheless, Billbob applied some scent onto the lure while leaning over the side of Wynn’s boat being careful not to get any on Wynn’s new boat. Together they noted that there had to be a better way. Some sort of applicator that would keep the SLABSAUCE from dripping or spraying everywhere.

With the SLABSAUCE applied on to the lures the three anglers started catching crappie. Of course Billbob and Moes weren’t surprised as they had experienced how well SLABSAUCE worked in the past. Wynn was impressed with just how effective the scent formula resulted in bites.

“SLABSAUCE is my secret formula combining and coupling no less than a dozen ingredients,” Moes continued, “It utilizes this secret formula developed in conjunction with members of Crappie.com.

Now anglers can purchase the large magic marker dispenser version of SLABSAUCE. It works by pushing on the tip and apply the sauce. No waste, no mess when applying and it’s approved by Wynn and Billbob.

“SLABSAUCE comes in a plastic spray bottle and in original or garlic aka G-Sauce. It’s also available in an eyedropper applicator and now the new SLABSAUCE Magic Brush,” said Moes.
