Maybe so , I don't know , but to be sure mid April here and big moon equals as good as the spawn gets most of the time .
Way back 50 years ago my calendar was marked for be sure to be on the SHORT water, hard after them in April .
There won't typically be many off days close to the 15th of April here , unless some kind of weather trauma throws a screw ball into the mix .
Case in point , the last several days here in north Texas have been really really good for very short water fish . Some of them are in just over 12 inches of water here , even at midday !
So if you are in this area of the world and want to hurt some nice fish in numbers , best get out there to your favorite spawning areas and get busy .
Some thought a little rain thing that went thru this week would mess it up and to be sure our wanderings indicate the fish could care less at this point . H and I are targeting 2 different large lakes in Ft. Worth and use each others information each visit to promote good ketch rates . He asks me good or not and I answer and he uses my barometer to dictate his go or not . I use his results to give me a good idea as to where to locate the fish on the lake I hit .
Yesterday might have been the "peak" of the spawn here and or VERY close to it . Fish sizes ran from yearlings to whoppers and every dip of the jig was a bite . Male fish are as colored up as they get and the females are popping full of eggs .
Water temps are near 70 in some places and the bite is just determined and frequent.
We are running jigs about 12 inches under floats and I have also been dipping a bit along the shoreline up against bulk head retaining walls .
Sure is some good fun and highly productive crappie ketchn without a doubt .
KABOOM is the word ya"ll
