• Trying to pick up where I left off

I got up a little late on Friday, made a pot of coffee, grabbed some of Paula's treats that she keeps on hand for me, hooked up the boat and headed down to the lake.

The first thing I did was run over to where I was the last trip to see if anybody was still home. It is still early in the season and you never know what you will get. The first rod to bend brought a nice cat on board. It gave me a chance to see how the equipment reacts to a bigger fish. They are always fun on the longer rods !

I let out more line today to see if I liked using lighter jig heads (1/32). They worked but I think I like using the 1/16 and 1/8 oz better. Going to have to do some more testing to work out the right amount of line to use behind the floats.

The lake was as smooth as glass with no wind this morning, just the way I like it. I was going to go over to the shallows to test running depths but it was to nice of a day not to try for at least a few crappie. I head out to my old hot spot.

After making a pass or two, I can tell that I am going to have to make some adjustments. But not too many, A rod goes off. First fish in the box. I put the boat into a slow turn and double back over the spot. Three or four more passes and I have dinner in the box.

It's getting hot and I look at the time. Boy dose it go by fast when you are having fun. I call Paula and tell her I'm running late (again ) and start to work my way back to the ramp. By now I have two meals in the box and wondering if I can make it three ?

Two more fish make it to the boat and I'm trying to get that third one. The rod goes off and it's a good one ! It runs across my other lines and I have a tangle. I bring the mess along side of the boat and grab the net. The fish shakes his head "no" and throws the hook. I head home one fish shy of three good meals.

maybe next trip I'll be able to check on line length behind my floats.

    Until then,
    tight lines and full nets

    see you on the water.

    Jim

Very nice. Should start cooling down some for more fun on the water.
