32 crappie 4 bluegill and a lil catfish in 1.25 hours is still slow , but hey it is still fun trying to figure out why it isn't 50 to 75 right
i think i was under them for the first good lil bit and found them up high in the water column using my i am blind technique .
using just a jig and no electronics makes for a an interesting venue , it is quite easy to convince yourself after looking at countless fish on a livescope just sitting deep on brush and on other cover and not biting that this is the scenario ....
so jig i did like i meant it and ketch a few i did as well , changed colors one time to see if it might make a big difference and to be honest not really .
chatted with a boat owner at the slips for a good while and while we chatted i got a real nice thump ...set the hook and the battle was on .....he looked surprised and it surprised me as well ....
i went into auto mode as it pulled drag and fought and said i am not sure what it is , but it isnt a crappie ....
finally up top it came and sure enough it was a stupid big crappie that came off right when i tried to sling it
watched the wildlife do its thing a bit as well and mister sneaky trying to steal a fish and then back off to work i went ....
best bite was about 2 to 3 foot down in 9 to 10 foot of water ,lake is falling and went down about a foot since the day before ,clarity was pretty good ,average fish was under 10 inches ,maybe 10 or so were keeper size and up ...almost zero hard bites in the mix except the whale of the day that got away
    KABOOM is the word

think I am guilty of fishing below crappie as well often. usually go down to bottom and stay there but need to bring jig up in column to see where they actually are. good day for sure tho when your ketchn so many just ok fish to suddenly get a monster on the line it is surprising and your not always thinking crappie but drum or kitty kat. oh well, quick release is what I always say! Was going to put er back anyway! LOL

I've always heard crappie will go up to bite but not down.

I do think they tend to want to bite going up , but ,according to livescope crappie do whatever they want on biting ,up, down and sideways if they are in the mood ,Ez watched a real big one follow his bait down to the bottom as it fell past it and it hit it when it got to the bottom . it followed it for around 10 feet from 5 or 6 foot down to the bottom in around 16 foot of water .
