Today my friend caught the fish I have been after all these years! You will be hearing about this fish very soon. He is working on getting it certified because it may be a state record black crappie. Its his story to tell, all I can say is congratulations, and if I couldn't catch it, at least it goes to very nice young standup fisherman who is always willing to help others catch fish. It weighed 4.32lb!

My guess is it will break the state record that stood for 40 years and came from the same lake.

Yes, it would be nice to know how old and some more details, Yes, it came from Clear Lake in Northern California. The fish and game were notified, not sure where the fish is this morning, or if it will be taxidermied. I will add information as I get it. You would think since this lake is rated top three in the world that a system would be in place to quickly and efficiently certify a catch.

May just be me and either way it is a monster catch! BUT it looks like it has vertical bars, can't see the spines well enough but a Black will have 7 - 8 and a white will have 5 - 6. My son caught a 17.5" crappie (we thought it was a black) last year on Old Hickory, TN, we had it weighed on certified scales and when the game warden got there he said it was a nice white crappie, not a black as we thought, he pointed out the bars (which you really had to hold it back and have a pretty good imagination) and counted the spines, totally let the air out of the balloon, we thought we had the new lake record black crappie. Either way its a fish of a life time!
