• Went to Lathem for a few hours today..

Launched the kayak around 10AM and fished until 2PM. Lots of trailers in the lot; I realized there was a bass tournament after the 3rd rude boat fished too close or passed too close. Bums. Anyway, I had not gone 100 yards from the launch when I had trolling motor issues. I decided to fish close to the lot, because I hate paddling. I took a look with my PLS:

After seeing this, I wasn't going anywhere. I caught around 25, not a one under 10", most over 12", and a few pushing 2 lbs 15-16 inches. I kept a few for my supper. I used an UL spinning rod and sat about 30 feet away, anchored, casting a 1.5 g jig with a greenie weenie or bison color trout magnet. I also had a spare rod with Bobby Garland blue ice baby shad. I would let the jig sink to 15 feet and slowly reel it thru the school .. fish on. I had to move the kayak several times to stay on them, because the crappie were not on any structure and were moving around on the flat.

Had a good time wrasslin' in the slabs on my UL rod, while drinking coffee and smoking a cigar. My kind of morning!

Very nice! I would fight the bass crowd to sit on school like that anytime.

That's how you do it when your TM isn't crankin! Way to find them on the flat and keep moving with them.
