• Solo crappie trip.

CUonthelake couldn’t go this morning and Phil is in Idaho, so I had to go by myself today. It was a perfect day weather wise. The crappie wanted to play and I had a ball catching all these fish. I ended up with 10 keepers and 33 short fish and one short bass.

Surface temp early was 69 but 73 by my 2:15 pm quitting time. Bright sunshine, no clouds, and no wind. It was perfect. TVA flowing 44,000 through the river but I stayed in creeks and bays.

I caught the crappie on brush and docks. 5 keepers on each structure. Very early, I caught fish on a 2-3 count over brush and on docks. Midday, I had to go to a 15 count with the 1/24 on jigs that I was casting. Most of the short crappie were on brush piles and just a few shorts on docks.

Since I was fishing solo, I didn’t get to experiment with different colors. I put the two hot colors on and never changed all day. Ghastly Minnow slab slayer on one rod and a bone white/chartreuse Crappie Magnet on the other rod.

Whew, I’m not used to fishing 5 hours in one setting. It is what I did today. Now it’s time for my nap.
